Warwickshire’s leading commercial property agency has called on the government to designate more land for employment use as the Planning & Infrastructure Bill becomes law.
David Penn, partner at Bromwich Hardy, and chair of the Coventry and Warwickshire Chamber of Commerce Employment Land Group, said: There is little question that our archaic and over-burdensome planning system has held back growth, homes and jobs.
“The headlines always appear to concentrate on housing but with little more than lip service to planning and development for jobs.”
He said Bromwich Hardy would have liked to have seen a mandatory five year land supply in Local Plans for jobs, and stronger obligations on local authorities’ duty to co-operate.
“We welcome spacial development strategies,” he said.
He has also called for more quantum release of land for jobs to make land more affordable and to make room for low density uses, a constant review of local plans to ensure delivery, and urged the government to ensure the provision of essential power supply.
He added: “Above all, we need delivery without undue bureaucracy and debate. In essence, the Act is welcomed and simplification is key.”
