Glynn cooking up a treat at Coventry bistro

05/05/2023

We couldn’t be more thrilled to see award-winning Michelin Star chef Glynn Purnell opening up in Coventry – especially as he’s in one of the buildings we manage.

Glynn has just launched his new café and bistro at Charterhouse, one of the city’s most historic buildings which dates back to the 14th century.

We are managing agents for Historic Coventry Trust, which does so much great work to bring new life to the city’s fabulous heritage. It is a privilege to work alongside the Trust to ensure the city’s great history also has a terrific future.

Grade I listed Charterhouse – which has just opened to the public – offers three historic floors of immersive storytelling, surrounded by a halo of beautiful green space filled with wildlife and the fabulous brand-new Purnell’s Café & Bistro at Charterhouse.

Charterhouse began life as a Carthusian monastery and has also been home to the likes of   Robert Dudley, famous favourite of Queen Elizabeth I, and John Whittingham, who cultivated the nursery and walled garden that produced exotic fruit for wealthy locals.

The café and bistro is situated in the newly refurbished refectory attached to the former Prior’s House and access is free and there is no need to book.

It offers an all-day menu and centres around simplicity and seasonality, taking the very best ingredients and combining them to deliver the most incredible flavours.

And you won’t want to miss the cake counter which boasts a veritable feast for those of you who have a sweet tooth including homemade cakes, pastries and hot drinks.

Tickets to tour Charterhouse itself are now on sale and give visitors readmission for 12 months, so you can keep coming back again and again. To book visit https://www.historiccoventrytrust.org.uk/visit/charterhouse/
